India sees nearly 2 million heart attacks every year and increasingly more youngsters are falling victim to the chronic disease. For individuals, acquiring insurance cover for various ailments including covering heart could be one of the best decisions one could ever make.
Aviva Life Insurance has launched India's first ever heart insurance plan for couples - 'Aviva Heart Care,' on the occasion of Valentine's Day. The policy provides coverage against 19 mild, moderate and severe cardiovascular conditions, and procedures and allows lump sum payout irrespective of the cost of treatment.
The policy allows the insured to cover himself and the spouse in the same policy at a nominal extra premium. Further options are available to restore policy benefits, once the basic sum assured is exhausted for severe category conditions.
Individuals in the age group from 28 to 65 years can take this policy which could be for a tenure of 10 years to 25 years. This is a like typical life insurance policy where an individual pays the premium for a predetermined tenure. The policy can also be topped up in the name of one's spouse for a normal increase in premiums.
Says Anjali Malhotra, Chief Customer, Marketing & Digital Officer, Aviva Life Insurance: "We have spoken with cardiologists and we have covered all the major heart ailments in the country. While there are many policies, none of them go deep and cover comprehensively against heart diseases."
This policy is similar to term plans wherein individuals can get a fixed-payout on detection of any of the conditions mentioned in the policy.
Policy premiums are fixed as per one's age, and increases every year. As an illustration, a typical 40-year-old male and 35-year-old spouse will pay Rs 4,634 as premium for Rs 10 lakh cover for a 10 year term including taxes. However, note that insurance premiums could vary.
