Alphabet-owned Google has reportedly said to lay off employees from its satellite navigation software company, Waze, according to media reports on Thursday.
Waze will be soon merged with Google Ads technology, the tech major reasoned the job cuts, the reports said additionally.
The details on the number of layoffs are yet to be disclosed.
Commenting on the layoffs Google said, for a seamless long-term experience for Waze advertisers, we will transform Waze's existing advertising system to Google Ads technology. The update will reduce the roles focused on Waze Ads monetisation, as per reports.
Earlier in December last year, Google hinted that Waze and Google Maps teams will consolidate as a part of the Google Geo division, its mapping portfolio that includes Google Maps, Google Earth and Street View.
Waze which supports the Global Positioning System (GPS) was acquired by Google for about USD 1.3 billion in 2013.
