Alphabet Google is reportedly exploring partnership opportunities with Indian suppliers to assemble its Pixel smartphones, as per a Bloomberg report on Tuesday.
It added that the strategic move underlines Apple’s aim of diversifying its supply chain beyond China.
Google is already in talks with companies like Lava International, Dixon Technologies India and Bharat FIH for its Pixel assembly, said the report.
It said Google would be the latest global tech major to move its production to India and is even estimated to have won Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s production-linked financial incentives, which are aimed to boost local manufacturing.
Alphabet's Pixel project marks a significant leg up for the PM Modi-led government, which has been working to pitch India as an alternative manufacturing major, over China.
Similarly, Apple has also adopted a program to widen its supplier base in India and triple its iPhone output from the country to more than USD 7 billion in the fiscal year through March 2023, the report added.
