Government Support as a Catalyst
The Union government has played a crucial role in the company’s growth journey. Policies and initiatives like the National Solar Mission (NSM), facilitated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), create a favorable regulatory environment, says Bharat Bhut, Co-founder, and Director of the company.
The Electricity Act 2003 and state-specific solar policies contribute to a supportive framework, he adds. The Production Linked Incentive Scheme strategically boosts domestic solar PV module manufacturing capacity, aligning with the government's commitment to driving renewable energy adoption, says Dholakiya.
Ambitious Expansion Plans
Goldi Solar recently announced a substantial investment of Rs 5,000 crore to scale up module manufacturing. The company is on track to establish a module manufacturing capacity of 6,000 MW and cell manufacturing capacity of 5,000 MW by 2026. With an aggressive order book of over Rs 5,000 crore in the current fiscal year, the company is poised for continued growth, says Bhut. The company's strategic approach includes sustainable practices, product range expansion, and global footprint enlargement, reducing dependence on the Indian market.
Addressing the Skills Gap
Recognizing the need for talent in the renewable energy sector, Goldi Solar is actively contributing to skill development. Initiatives include the establishment of a Skill Development Center, collaboration with suppliers, and an MoU with L&T Public Charitable Trust for a fast-paced skill development program in solar PV manufacturing. The expansion plans aim to add 1,000 new talents to the workforce, supporting regional economic growth and India's broader skill development mission. “In addition, our ongoing expansion will add 1,000 new talents to our workforce, taking our total headcount from 4,500 to 5,500 by 2026,” says Dholakiya.
Company’s MD underlines the importance of collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector in R&D. Dholakiya says infrastructure development, particularly in grid integration and energy storage solutions, is a pivotal area where government support can enhance overall efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in renewable energy sources, contributing to India's cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
