Skilling has come a long way, with computing and technology being the top of the radar since a long time, with every activity having some part of these skills as a requirement. However, times are changing now with the core focus of every profession being ESG and CSR compliance. It will not be a rarity.
Highlighting the importance of these activities, Rajesh Khosla, President and CEO, AGI Plastic speaks to BW Businessworld as a standalone address on the Recycle Awards 2022. In his address he speaks about, ‘Increasing demand for glass containers means more use of recycled glass'.
“Recycling has always been a part of Indian culture. Same with glass business where recyclability is utmost important.” Says Khosla. The primary ingredient of glass is sand, which makes recyclability all the more important given that sans will not be easily available in the future.
“In india only 42% of the sand is recycled, while in Europe it is close to 80%. The number one challenge is lack of awareness among people. The disposal also does not happen due to a part of the circular economy.” Adds Khosla. If these concerns are addresed glass can be recycled hundreds of times over. However, we are laden with cultural challenges, information challenges, and legal challenges. Companies now are trying to contact consumption points like hotels and restaurants in order to collect glass residue.
“A lot of companies are tapping into individual ingredients that can be tapped and used from waste material. The more we can use and collect, more the sand mining will not be there.” Says Khosla. In a nutshell, the total amount of glass that can be recycled is equivalent to the total glass produced. What is needed is adequate background worm for the same.
