In a candid conversation with Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson of All Ladies League and Women Economic Forum, Shilpa Shetty avowed that girls need to focus more on their health and less on how they look.
“Today, everything is dependent on the likes you get on social media, and it is daunting. My son asks me questions that I would have asked much later at his age. Girls just need to focus on their fitness, health and not size. Parents should teach their children to eat well. My parents did not indulge in aerated drinks ever. Nowadays, if you see boys and girls, they are hitting puberty soon because of the hormones in the mother’s milk. We blame food but it’s us because of whom our bodies are getting harmed,” said Shilpa.
When Harbeen asked Shilpa on insights of keeping oneself fit and healthy, she explained, “I was always inclined towards being fit; and initially I did not even know the difference between protein and carbs. Later though, my interest for fitness started brewing and only after that I started reading a lot on subjects related to it. I have remained a sports person throughout my school and college life. Back then, I was the only actress who used to go to gyms along with my co-actors.”
“I started liking it, but my wanting to share perception on the topic happened only after I had my first baby. It was very scary because being an actress you are always required to be in shape. So, I commenced doing exercises and yoga along with a proper diet plan; as a result, I lost 32kgs. I looked better than ever,” she continued.
Shilpa also wrote a book ‘The Great Indian Diet’ and it turned out to be a bestseller. She in her talks heavily emphasized on the quality of food that one intakes. “In India, we women are very apologetic of leaving our children and doing something for ourselves, but it shouldn’t be the case. We should be as particular of our diet as we are for children. We are the home-makers and so it entirely relies on us whether we want to keep ourselves and our children healthy or otherwise,” she explained.
The actress also spoke on her YouTube channel and the subject it revolves around. No aerated or junk food, is what she focuses on. She stresses on ‘precaution is better than cure’ and recommends methods through which one can be prudent against some of the diseases such as diabetes and cancer via her channel. Shilpa acknowledges it to be her charity and karma.
