Internet security company Fortinet strengthens its India operations with its new "innovation centre" launched in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The centre has 120 staff dedicated to research and development (R&D) and is the company's largest R&D facility outside its headquarters in North America.
The team at the innovation centre will focus on developing algorithms that secure large enterprises running mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) devices and location-based services. With most connected devices today using WiFi as their default connectivity standard, Fortinet believes it has a huge opportunity in blending WiFi access with network protection.
Unlike many other competitors, for Fortinet, the US contributes just 43 per cent to its total revenue and a significant portion of it is from Europe, Middle East, and Africa (36 per cent) and Asia Pacific (21 per cent). Fortinet's India business has grown over 32 per cent year-on-year in 2015.
"In Bangalore, we are building enterprise class WiFi systems that seamlessly onboard and switch customers between WiFi and LTE networks," said Kishore Reddy, VP of Engineering and country manager, Fortinet Innovation Centre.
Fortinet said it is appointing domain specialists to provide network security expertise to every major industry including government, telecom, healthcare, BFSI, retail, manufacturing, and education. In the long term, Fortinet also plans to conduct region-specific training and threat updates for customers and partners across the country.
