Engineers India Goes Big On Green Energy
EIL, a government-owned engineering, procurement, and construction company that began its journey of constructing India's energy infrastructure in 1965, is currently thriving in its existing and new areas of operations. With healthy growth in its order book that stands at Rs 9,000 crore, the company is generating record revenue. Vartika Shukla, the chairperson and managing director of Engineers India, discussed some of EIL's key achievements in shaping India's energy landscape, including Auto Fuel Technologies, Refinery & Petrochemical Integration, niche petrochemicals, and now Bio Fuels, Green Hydrogen, and Bio-ATF.
According to Shukla, EIL plans to diversify into new areas, such as nuclear energy, and tap into overseas markets in regions such as the Middle East to drive the next phase of growth. During the interaction organized on the occasion of its 59th Foundation Day, Shukla stated that EIL has strategized its growth plan with a five-pronged strategy of strategic collaboration, diversification in new areas, innovation and technology, expanding geographies, and operational excellence.
Shukla further added that EIL's strategy for growth would be to provide its services in the sunshine areas of energy-efficient infrastructure, mining and metallurgy, and other diversified areas of operation to remain at the leadership position in providing engineering solutions and implementing mega projects in the future. The company aims to be a global leader offering a total solution for a sustainable future.
In terms of expansion plans, EIL is aiding in the expansion of the Vizag oil refinery, building a new highly-petrochemical intensive oil refinery at Barmer in Rajasthan, and working on one of the biggest petrochemical integration projects of HPCL Mittal Energy at Bhatinda in Punjab. EIL has also significantly expanded its business in new geographies, including the Dangote oil refinery project in Nigeria, which has a total capital outlay of almost $20 billion, and providing project management consultancy (PMC) services for a 1.5 million tons Mongol refinery project in Mongolia.
Furthermore, EIL has marked its footprint in biofuels projects implementation, including providing its services in the implementation of one of the largest capacities biorefinery projects in India for Assam Biorefinery and playing a crucial role in providing technological solutions for decarbonizing the aviation sector in collaboration with CSIR-IIP, Dehradun. Shukla stated that EIL is looking at diversification, and nuclear energy is one such area they are actively exploring. EIL has also broadened its horizon in the hydrocarbon and fertilizer business beyond its consultancy and engineering services portfolio. The stake company took in Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and one of the largest capacity urea producing Ramagundam Fertilizer Corporation Limited in Telangana, reflecting this expansion.
