As India prepares for Diwali and related festivities across Delhi and other parts of the country, Indian traders are aiming to attract as many customers as possible to drive significant growth in their businesses.
Following the increased footfall and sales during Rakshabandhan, Navratri, and Karva Chauth, traders are expecting a turnover of approximately Rs 4.25 lakh crore across India during this Diwali season, the trade body has said.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has said that Delhi alone projected to see business worth around Rs 75,000 crore
Praveen Khandelwal, Chandni Chowk MP and Secretary General, CAIT stated today that grand preparations are underway in markets across Delhi and nationwide for Diwali and the festival season.
Khandelwal shared that shops across the country’s metropolitan cities, tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, towns, and villages will be decorated in line with the Diwali theme.
The trade body mentioned that colourful lights, rangolis, and other decorative elements will be emphasised to create a festive atmosphere and attract more people to the markets.
Khandelwal mentioned that anticipating a sharp increase in demand during the festival season, traders have already begun to stock various items such as gift items, clothing, jewelry, electronics, mobile phones, furnishings, decor items, puja materials, rangoli, idols and pictures of deities, ready-made garments, toys, food items, confectionery, electrical goods, consumer durables, and more.
BC Bhartia, National President, CAIT added that traders are also considering various discounts and promotional offers to attract customers. Offers like ‘buy one-get one’ or special Diwali discounts could be provided to entice customers.
Bhartia added that given the heavy crowds expected during Diwali, traders have requested special arrangements from the police and local administration for security and traffic control, while trade associations are also planning to deploy additional private security guards.
Khandelwal emphasised that markets across Delhi and India are fully prepared for Diwali, actively implementing new strategies to compete with the challenges posed by ecommerce, and are set to achieve substantial business during this festival season.
