Amid the ongoing scare of the Omicron variant in the entire country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed happiness as over 50 per cent of the eligible population are now fully vaccinated in India.
According to PM Modi, India’s vaccination drive crossed another important milestone. In response to a tweet by the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Prime Minister said, "India’s vaccination drive crosses another important milestone. Important to keep this momentum to strengthen the fight against COVID-19. And yes, keep following all other COVID-19 related protocols including masking up and social distancing."
Vaccination status: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday said that with the administration of 24,55,911 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded the 127.93 crore (1,27,93,09,669) mark.
"Congratulations India. It is a moment of great pride as over 50 per cent of the eligible population are now fully vaccinated. We will win the battle against COVID-19 together," Mandaviya tweeted on Sunday.
The ministry also said that over 139 crore (1,39,02,60,790) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through the centre and through the direct state procurement category.
"Over 21 crore (21,06,50,896) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered," it said.
Coronavirus cases: The health ministry said that a total of 8,306 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 8,834 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,40,69,608. India’s recovery rate stands at 98.35 per cent. India’s active caseload presently stands at 98,416 which constitute 0.28 per cent of the country's total positive cases, which is the lowest since March 2020.
Omicron cases in India: Talking about Omicron cases, it rose to 21 on Sunday after Delhi and Rajasthan registered their first cases and Maharashtra reported seven more cases of the new variant. National Capital (Delhi) and Rajasthan added to India's Omicron tally by recording one, nine cases respectively. As of now, Omicron variant cases have been reported in Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi and Rajasthan.
Testing/Screening update: The ministry in a statement said that in the last 24 hours saw a total of 8,86,263 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 64.82 Cr (64,82,59,067) cumulative tests.
Amid the scare of Omicron, Health Minister on Sunday reviewed RT-PCR testing facilities for passengers coming from at-risk countries at the IGI airport, New Delhi
Mandaviya took to Twitter and wrote, "Reviewed RT-PCR testing facilities for passengers coming from at-risk countries at the IGI airport, New Delhi. 35 rapid RT-PCR testing machines are functional within Terminal -3. With this, passengers screening & testing time can be reduced to even 30 minutes."
The weekly positivity rate at 0.78 per cent which remained less than 1 per cent for the last 22 days now. The daily positivity rate is at 0.94 per cent which has remained below 2 per cent for the last 63 days and below 3 per cent for 98 consecutive days now.
