Panic ensued at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch located on the second floor of the old bus stand in Iritty when both visitors and employees spotted a cobra on the premises.
The incident unfolded on Monday around 10.45 am when a customer noticed the snake curled up in a corner, occasionally displaying its hood. Nearby vendors and porters quickly gathered at the scene. Faisal Vilakkode, a worker from the Malabar Awareness and Rescue Centre for Wildlife (MARC), promptly arrived and safely captured the snake. Bank operations were disrupted for approximately an hour.
Faisal, who also serves as a temporary staff member of the forest department, explained that snakes tend to seek shelter indoors during the rainy season. He noted that they have successfully captured around 100 snakes from various locations.
