The ChatGPT mobile application saw a surge in popularity, boasting an impressive 15.6 million downloads and grossing nearly USD 4.6 million in revenue across both iOS and Android platforms worldwide in September, as reported by Appfigures.
One of the standout highlights of ChatGPT's recent performance is the noticeable deceleration in revenue growth. According to Appfigures, over the past couple of months, revenue had been riding high, with surges of 31 per cent in July and 39 per cent in August. However, September saw a drop to 20 per cent growth rate. This shift could be indicative of ChatGPT's impending saturation point, with potential implications for its premium subscription service.
The ChatGPT+ subscription, priced at USD 19.99 per month, has garnered substantial interest. In June, it kicked off with a promising USD 2.1 million in gross revenues. This figure steadily climbed to USD 2.74 million in July, USD 3.81 million in August and USD 4.58 million in September. However, ChatGPT faces stiff competition, as rival AI app Ask AI has outperformed in terms of revenue, thanks to significant ad spending.
Ask AI, ChatGPT's rival, experienced a revenue increase from USD 6.48 million in May to a peak of USD 6.55 million in August. While it saw a slight dip to USD 5.51 million in September, it still managed to maintain an edge over ChatGPT. The net revenue figures may paint a different picture, especially considering Ask AI's substantial ad expenditure.
Aside from revenue records, ChatGPT also saw a remarkable 15.6 million installations in September, amassing a lifetime total of 52.2 million installations. Google Play proved to be the dominant source of downloads, contributing nine million, while the App Store accounted for the remaining 6.6 million.
However, when it comes to revenue generation, the App Store takes the lead, raking in USD 3 million from in-app purchases in the past month.
