The Cabinet Secretary-headed panel is to interview five shortlisted candidates for the post of Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) deputy governor on 1 June 2023, suggests a media report on Sunday.
The RBI deputy governor's post has been reserved for a commercial banker which will fall vacant on 21 June 2023 after M K Jain’s extended tenure gets complete.
According to media sources, five candidates including a non-executive chairman of a public sector bank have been shortlisted for the post to be interviewed by the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointment Search Committee (FSRASC) headed by Cabinet Secretary in Delhi.
Members of FSRASC include the RBI governor, the Cabinet Secretary, the Financial Services Secretary along with two independent members.
The selected candidate will be subject to approvals from the appointment committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, as per media reports.
The central bank is supposed to have four deputy governors with respect to RBI Act 1934, wherein, two governors should be within the ranks, the other two as a commercial banker and an economist respectively.
