Irrespective of the role that Nisaba Godrej has donned over the years, she has received widespread praise. From being called the ‘youngest chairperson’ to being seen as one of the most forward-looking and inclusive leaders of our times, to being a growth catalyst behind Godrej Consumer Products’ (GCPL) transformation, there is barely anything left to be said about her brand of leadership.
Moreover, she has remained true to the core ethos she had begun her journey with. She can be credited for making Godrej a more meritocratic organisation. GCPL embraced sustainability and tenets such as diversity and inclusion a long time before these were seen as essentials for companies to grow. When observed, these are mere outcomes of Nisaba’s principles rooted in fairness and a just mindset.
She reminds that any decision based on gender is discriminatory, whether at the workplace or in more intimate relationships such as marriage.
One example last year was the partnership between GCPL and the Government of Tamil Nadu, entailing a Rs 515 crore investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Nisaba had written in her social post at the time, “It gives us great pride as Indians to establish this factory in a state that has shown exemplary leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), and pioneered initiatives for the LGBTQIA+ communities, from landmark judgements to healthcare support that help them assimilate across sectors.”
She consistently challenges herself to be a leader who is changing India, and the world, for the better.
