BW Box-Office Predictions: Lipstick Under My Burkha, Munna Michael and Dunkirk
Lipstick Under My Burkha with a strong take on women empowerment, Munna Michael with the out-and-out commercial Bollywood drama feel and a World War II epic adventure drama, ‘Dunkirk’; three films of three different genres will be debuting in the theatres this Friday (21st July).
The box-office footfalls have been good for the past couple of weeks with releases like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jagga Jasoos and War for the Planet of the Apes. The box-office scenario is expected to be on the same lines for the upcoming weekend (21-23rd July).
Munna Michael is a romantic comedy starring Tiger Shroff and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead. The film has been moderately promoted and the music is average. This is Sabbir Khan and Tiger Shroff’s third collaboration after Heropanti and Baaghi. Both their previous films have worked at the box-office and raked in good numbers. The tag of a commercial entertainer might work in favour of Munna Michael. The film is expected to be strong in single screen theatres, while the performance in the multiplexes is likely to remain average. Looking at the buzz, Munna Michael is expected to open on a positive note with Rs 7-8 crore on Friday (21st July). Though, the weekend performance will entirely depend on the reviews and word of mouth.
Lipstick Under My Burkha will also be hitting the screens this weekend. The film has been under the radar of Censor Board for women objectification and absurdity. However, the controversies have worked in favour of the film. The film has created a very good buzz with its bold trailer and by highlighting issues of women sufferance and empowerment through ab interesting approach.
The film is receiving extremely positive reviews which have enhanced the pre-release buzz. Lipstick Under My Burkha will be targeting a very niche set of audience, but the film has full potential to grow on word of mouth through the weekend and weekdays. The film will be opening on the lines of Rs 4-5 crore and the biz is likely to multiply through the weekend.

The film is likely to top the worldwide weekend box-office this weekend. The film has been distributed by Warner Bros. Picture and will get a wide release in India. The film will have a Thursday (20th July) preview release in India and the pre-bookings have been excellent.
The film has been rated as the best work of Christopher Nolan by the international critics. Dunkirk is expected to take a head start of Rs 2.5-3 crore on Thursday previews. With a full release on Friday, Dunkirk is expected to gather around Rs 6-7 crore. The film is expected to take a massive jump in collections on Saturday (22nd July) and Sunday (23rd July).
