Bumble is putting in additional protections to fulfil its objective of encouraging healthy and fair partnerships while still prioritising women's experiences. As the dating industry changes, Bumble is concentrating on appropriate AI use and tackling difficulties caused by deceptive behaviour. According to a recent Bumble poll, 71 per cent of Gen-Z and Millennial respondents believe that the use of AI-generated profile photos and biographies on dating apps should be limited. The same amount of respondents felt that utilising AI-generated photographs of themselves in locations they have never been or doing activities they have never done constituted catfishing.
To address these concerns, Bumble has released a new safety update that includes a reporting tool for detecting and mitigating unethical AI use. This update supports Bumble's goal to fostering meaningful relationships by eliminating misleading or harmful aspects. Risa Stein, Bumble's VP of Product, emphasised the significance of this endeavour, saying, "An important aspect of establishing a space to develop genuine relationships is eliminating any element that is false or hazardous. We are committed to constantly enhancing our technologies to guarantee that Bumble remains a secure and trustworthy dating platform. By adding this new reporting option, we can gain a deeper understanding of how bad actors and phoney accounts use AI deceptively, giving our community confidence in forging connections."
The new reporting tool complements Bumble's current AI-powered capabilities that improve member safety. The Deception Detector, which debuted earlier this year, aids in the detection of spam, fraud and phoney profiles. Bumble claimed a 45 per cent reduction in spam, fraud and phoney profile reports within the first two months of adoption. Another AI tool, the Private Detector, automatically blurs potentially nude photographs sent in conversations and alerts users that they have received improper information, giving them the choice to ban or report the image.
Bumble has also improved its "For You" function, which employs AI to build a daily selection of four appropriate profiles based on user preferences and previous matches. This tool is intended to improve the user experience by displaying singles profiles that may be good matches.
