The government of India has embarked on a mission to electrify all vehicles in the country by 2030. Keeping in line with this ambitious plan, automakers has lined up a range of electric and hybrid vehicles at the upcoming 14th Auto Expo 2018.
If reports are to be believed somewhere around 50 electric vehicles will be showcased at the Expo.
Frost & Sullivan estimates sales of approximately 1.4 million electric vehicles in India by 2030, accounting for about 18 per cent of the new vehicles market. While electric vehicles are expected to account for about 15 per cent, full hybrid electric vehicles will have about 3 per cent.
1. Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra will display widest range of clean electric vehicles across personal and commercial segments. These will include six all new electric vehicles, of which two are futuristic concepts. In addition, there will also be a display of a first of its kind future electric architecture and an electric mobility platform.
2. Mercedes-Benz India
Mercedes-Benz India will be showcasing the its vision of Future Mobility - Concept EQ. The Concept EQ will be a forerunner of Mercedes-Benz's new product brand for electric mobility globally, and this showcase will delineate its long-term strategy of introducing the ‘EQ’ brand of battery electric vehicles in India.
3. Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai will present its all-electric sedan Ioniq, which is one of the world's first car to offer all 3 electrified versions – Hybrid; Plug-in & All Electric. This is going to be the vehicle’s first display in Indian market.
4. Maruti Suzuki India
Maruti Suzuki will showcase its first concept electric vehicle, the e-Survivor. It is a design study model for a compact SUV, and symbolizes Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to help develop the entire lifecycle of electric vehicles in India including local manufacture of components, charging infrastructure and recycling of batteries. Positioned as a futuristic concept, Concept e-Survivor is a four-wheel drive, autonomous, connected and electric vehicle.
Maruti Suzuki will also showcase a working model of the next generation Suzuki Hybrid system (HEV) that currently powers Suzuki Solio and Suzuki Swift cars manufactured and sold in Japan.
5. BMW India
BMW will showcase the all-new BMW i8 Roadster and the all-new BMW i3s at the Expo. World premiere of the BMW i8 Roadster happened at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December 2017. It has a top speed of 250km/hr with acceleration from 0-100km/hr in 4.6 seconds.
The BMW i3s engine’s maximum torque of 270Nm and 184hp (135kW) of power, gives it a maximum speed of 99mph.
6. UM Lohia Two Wheelers
The Indian arm of the American motorcycle maker UM International will unveil the world’s first electric geared high speed liquid cooled cruiser during the Expo.
7. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India
Making its first ever appearance in India after its global debut in Tokyo Motor Show 2017 is Honda’s latest electric vehicle concept – the PCX Electric scooter. The PCX Electric is outfitted with Honda’s high-output electric motor, and a removable Honda Mobile Power Pack. It shares the same basic design as the PCX Hybrid.
8. Kia Motors India
Kia will exhibit its wide range of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and a range of other cars – including the exciting new Stinger sports sedan. The world premiere for Kia SP Concept will also be witnessed at the Expo, hinting at plans for an Indian market SUV.
