Apple’s 2022 edition of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicks off this June 6 with an all-important keynote address (at 10.30 PM IST). The annual developer’s conference is one of the most highly anticipated events which sees Apple release important details regarding its upcoming software and hardware launches.
Why so Important?
Although the event is meant for Apple developer partners, the event is popular amongst all Apple enthusiasts as the company throws the spotlight on important launches for a particular year during WWDC.
The event allows developers from across the world to interact with Apple engineers and designers through labs and digital lounges. These interactions can help developers seek valuable insights on innovation.
In the recent past, the tech behemoth has unveiled many hardware products during WWDC keynotes, including the new iMac Pro in 2017, and the new Mac Pro and a new display in 2019. Last year, WWDC saw Apple revealed plans for the iOS 15, Apple Maps, watchOS 8, macOS Monterey and more.
This year at WWDC 2022, Apple is expected to drop updates on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16. According to a person familiar with the matter, Apple might be revealing the successor to the M1 chip apart from dropping important details on AR/VR developments at WWDC.
Apple is making the keynote address available via apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and YouTube, with on-demand playback available after the conclusion of the stream.
Those who are interested can watch the WWDC keynote on their Apple devices using Apple’s Safari browser or on Chrome. Additionally, to access the web stream, it’s important that your iOS devices run on iOS 10 or later, and on macs - this criterion extends to macOS Sierra 10.12 and upwards.
A Global Virtual Event
With Apple’s global community growing to more than 30 million developers, the WWDC (famously called ‘Dub Dub’) is an important platform that delivers insights and provides access to technologies and tools that help developers make their dream a reality. This year, Apple is also working on localised content to reach its greater developer audience which is diverse.
“At its heart, WWDC has always been a forum to create connection and build community,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing. “In that spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from around the world to come together to explore how to bring their best ideas to life and push the envelope of what’s possible. We love connecting with our developers, and we hope all of our participants come away feeling energised by their experience.”
Between June 6-10, developers are in for a treat as developers will learn how they can make their apps and games truly state-of-the-art through the Apple WWDC 2022. During the conference, developers will learn how they can take their apps to the next level with a deeper dive into the new tools, technologies, and advances across Apple platforms. Platforms State of the Union will stream via the Apple Developer app and the Apple Developer website.
WWDC is continuing with its virtual format since the onset of the pandemic. But Apple has also invited a few hundred developers, press persons, and students to its HQ in Cupertino, California for presentations, campus tours, in-person meets with the Apple team.
Apple will also host the Design Awards to recognise talent in the area of art and creativity on June 7. The Apple Design Awards will stream on the Apple Developer app and the Apple Developer website at 5.30 AM IST.
