Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd, the wholly-owned retail clinics unit of Pratap C Reddy-promoted Apollo Hospital Enterprise, has tied up with Malaysia’s Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare to offer diabetes care services in Malaysia. This partnership, which is aimed at reducing the burden of disease for the people of Malaysia, will start its services in the hospitals owned by Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care and will also expand across the neighbourhood clinics.
Malaysia with 3.2 million diabetics at present has one of the highest diabetes prevalence rates amongst adults worldwide, indicating 1 in 6 adults have diabetes.
Apollo Clinics runs a diabetes care chain in India under the brand name Apollo Sugar Clinics in partnership with drug maker Sanofi. The company claims that it deliver care to at least 2 lakh diabetic patients across the country through nearly 100 clinics.
With the Malaysian collaboration, the company along with Ramsay aims to pool their resources and expertise to provide the services in that market. They also aim to work closely with local communities to improve screening, early detection, awareness and management of diabetes amongst the general population.
“At Apollo, we have built strong expertise in delivering care for diabetics through an evidence based model that combines clinical care with lifestyle interventions, with multiple touch points over time resulting in better outcomes for the diabetic,” said Suneeta Reddy, managing director, Apollo Hospitals, and Chairperson, Apollo Health and Lifestyle.
This diabetes care programme covers both diabetes treatment and also prevention and treatment of all complications of the disease.
According to Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care chairman Jacob Thomas, this partnership with Apollo represents a significant milestone for the two leading care delivery organisations to come together to provide diabetes care to people with diabetes across Malaysia.
“We will begin this collaboration with a centre of excellence to be set up in Subang Jaya Medical Centre, our flagship hospital,” Thomas said.
Ramsay’s new centre would be named Apollo Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Centre for Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology, he added.
