Airline Passenger Traffic Increases 22.58 Per Cent in January

Indian airlines carried 76.55 lakh passengers in January compared with 62.45 lakh during the same month last year, registering a growth of 22.58 per cent, the aviation regulator said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said IndiGo retained its dominance in the domestic aviation market by flying 35.6 per cent of total passengers in January, followed by Jet Airways that flew 21.4 per cent, while Air India remained third largest by flying 16 per cent.

SpiceJet continued to lead in load factor by flying its planes with 92.1 per cent of seats full, while GoAir achieved 84.9 per cent load factor and IndiGo's average was 84.7 per cent.

Vistara clocked best load factors by flying 86.6 per cent of its flights on time followed by Jet Airways and JetLite that flew 75.4 per cent of its flights on time. IndiGo got the third position by flying 75 per cent of its flights in time.

The aviation watchdog also highlighted that the passenger load factor in the month of January 2016 slightly decreased compared to previous month due to the end of tourist season.
