National carrier Air India is going to commence its Mumbai-Bhavnagar service from today (April 21) giving a huge relief to the travellers in this route.
The same route has been pulled out by India’s second largest airline Jet Airways terming it economically unviable.
With an aim to bolster regional connectivity as a part of its Connect India program, Air India will operate its first ever flight on this by its wholly owned subsidiary Alliance Air.
The flight will operate four days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Air India is going to use a 70 seater ATR 72-600 aircraft on this route.
Earlier Jet Airways used to operate Mumbai-Bhavnagar service but discontinued its services after it found that there were only few passengers travelling on this route.
According to the AAI data, the number of passengers arriving/departing out of the Bhvanagar airport declined by a whopping 70 per cent to 3,055 in February this year against 9,695 passengers in the same period last year.
Recently, Air India commenced services to Bangalore-Vijyavada, Kolkata-Agartala recently as a part of the Connect India scheme.
