In January 2022, Ruby Ahluwalia, the founder of Sanjeevani – Life Beyond Cancer resigned from her job as a civil servant (1987 batch) to work full-time for cancer patients and their welfare.
Ahluwalia is not just a seasoned professional but a true fighter who has successfully defeated cancer with her incredible spirit and persistence.
"While going through a personal journey with cancer I noticed the gaps in the cancer care space. My desire to close these gaps so that cancer patients can start the treatment without any fear of shortage of resources, feel motivated to complete the treatment and get completely cured of it to lead an optimal life, thereafter, led me to venture into the space of cancer care," says Ahluwalia.
Sanjeevani, an NGO, provides Ahluwalia with a voice to make a difference in the healthcare system and gives her an opportunity to lead a motivated team from the front. In a world where health and wellness have become extremely important, her aim is to create a patient-centric healthcare system that drives her to work in this space of integrated cancer care.
"The key areas where I would be focusing in the year ahead are; increasing and empowering our teams, qualitative delivery of existing programmes, expansion of our programmes to new geographies and research and impact studies," says Ahluwalia.
There are few problems that Ahluwalia still encounters, especially given the challenges in Covid-19 times.
"The new challenges which have cropped up recently due to a new normal include uncertainties of the revenue stream, investing heavily in the digitisation of work content, keeping the teams motivated and devising programmes and strategies to be in constant touch with the patients," she says.
She believes that sharing the goals and challenges of the organisation openly through an efficient communication channel across teams and maintaining transparency helps to solve employees’ problems and achieve the organisation’s goals.
Ahluwalia is widely recognised for her work and was felicitated with the title of 'Pride of Uttarakhand', she has won many awards in the past.
