Amazon India Under Scrutiny For Misleading Consumers With 'Ram Temple Prasad' Sweets

Amazon India has been issued a notice by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for allegedly selling sweets on its platform under the name of 'Prasad' for the Ram Temple Ayodhya. The products in question include Raghupati Ghee Ladoo, Khoya Khobi Ladoo, Ghee Bundi Ladoo and Desi Cow Milk Peda.

The CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Rohit Kumar Singh, has taken action against Amazon Seller Services, citing a violation of the Consumer Protection (e-commerce) Rules, 2020. The authority observed that the sweets/food products, claimed to be "Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad," were being sold on Amazon, misleading consumers about the genuine characteristics of the products.

According to Rule 4(3) of the Consumer Protection (e-commerce) Rules, 2020, e-commerce entities are prohibited from adopting unfair trade practices, whether on their platforms or otherwise.

Amazon has been given seven days to respond to the notice, and failure to do so may result in necessary action being initiated under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Meanwhile, preparations for the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya are in full swing, scheduled for 22 January. The idol of Lord Ram was placed inside the temple's sanctum sanctorum on Thursday, with the consecration ceremony expected to take place from 12:20 pm to 1 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the ceremony, and the temple is expected to open to the public the following day.
