23 August will be celebrated as National Space Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during his visit to ISRO. He landed in Bengaluru on Saturday, 26 August to meet with the ISRO team working on the Chandrayaan-3 project.
He recently connected to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC). “I couldn't stop myself because I wasn't in the country. I decided to visit Bengaluru first and meet our scientists right after coming to India,” PM Modi said outside Bengaluru's HAL airport.
PM Modi also met with ISRO Chairman S Somanath to congratulate him on the successful Moon landing of Chandrayaan-3. He praised the ISRO scientists who are working on India's moon program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi credited ISRO scientists with awakening a whole generation and leaving a lasting mark on young minds while speaking to a delegation of ISRO scientists in Bengaluru.
“Experts predict that India's space industry will grow from USD 8 billion to USD 16 billion,” Modi said at ISRO.
While attending the 15th BRICS Summit, the Prime Minister watched the historic touchdown of lander Vikram live from Johannesburg.
India took a big stride forward on Wednesday evening as the Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully landed on the moon's South Pole, making it the first country to accomplish the historic achievement and putting an end to the disappointment of the Chandrayaan-2 crash landing four years ago.
After the United States, China, and Russia, India became the fourth country to successfully land on the moon's surface. On 14 July, the spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
