Rolls-Royce has been in India for over 85 years. Why is India so important to you?
Rolls-Royce has come a long way since we started our journey in India over 85 years ago. Today, we are deeply embedded in India as an investor, a high-skills employer and as a supplier of power systems across all our five businesses: civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine, civil nuclear and power systems.
We are leveraging the vast engineering talent pool across our two engineering centres in India — one in Bengaluru where we carry out a range of aerospace design and engineering work including development of new tools and technologies; and the other in Pune, where we launched an integrated engineering centre which delivers excellent engineering solutions to our Marine and Power Systems businesses.
In the supply chain, we are currently sourcing rings and forgings from suppliers such as Bharat Forge, Godrej and Tata as well as our own joint venture with HAL - IAMPL and plan to expand into more complex commodities in the future.
How is Indian talent helping you?
With our growing footprint, we are actively looking at building an ecosystem that will engage in co-creation across the entire value-chain — from research, design and development to manufacturing, maintenance and repair. Recently, we announced our strategic partnership with TCS to leverage the digital workforce available in the country. This will enable Rolls-Royce to use data to innovate within all of our businesses and collaborate more effectively with partners and customers.
Overall, our belief in India’s talent and its manufacturing capabilities, coupled with our commitment to play a key role in India’s indigenisation vision, positions us to embrace opportunities to co-design, co-develop and co-manufacture with right Indian strategic partners.
How important is India in Rolls-Royce’s growth plans?
For us, India continues to be one of the key strategic growth markets. The country’s 4Ds: demography, democracy, demand and digital, enables us to contribute towards the development and transformation of India’s growth capabilities.
We see a huge potential and are committed to build on our distinguished legacy to help support India with our powerful portfolio of products and services and the right combination of experience and advanced technologies.
You have recently done a partnership with TCS? How do you plan to leverage that?
As part of this agreement, TCS will provide digital platform capability, allowing data to be captured, shared and analysed more easily across Rolls-Royce, so that new products and services can be developed at pace.
The partnership will further help Rolls-Royce to accelerate its digital transformation, deliver further value to customers, improve existing services and create new areas of growth.
