Eicher and Yamaha achieved strong two-wheeler sales in February as the auto segment stayed on the growth path on the back of robust demand for scooters.
Eicher Motors said its total sales of two-wheelers rose by 63 per cent to 49,146 units as against 30,240 units sold in February 2015.
The company exported 1,589 bikes in February 2015, registering an export growth rate of 115 per cent. The company recently started retail operations in Thailand, which is expected to boost its exports. The company will also launch its adventure bike the Himalayan this month.
Hero Motocorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, reported a growth of 13.6 per cent for February. The company sold 550,992 units during the month compared with 484,769 in February 2015.
The company said it has managed the production at its Gurgaon, Dharuhera (Haryana) and Neemrana (Rajasthan) plants well despite the Jat job reservation protest, which have disrupted life in the region.
"The company made up for the lost days when despatches from these plants were affected due to the blockade of the national highways and other roads," the company said.
Hero MotoCorp rolled out the Duet scooter in eastern India. The company says the Duet, along with the Maestro Edge, has received a positive response in many local markets, helping it consolidate its position in the scooter market.
TVS Motor Company said it recorded a 7 per cent growth in sales last month. Total sales increased from 204,565 units February 2015 to 219,467 units in February 2016.
The company's total exports were 34,804 units in February 2016 as against 38,725 units in the same month of 2015.
Domestic two-wheeler sales grew by 11.4 per cent with sales increasing from 164,508 units in February 2015 to 183,199 units last month.
Yamaha Motor India reported a 49.96 per cent jump in domestic sales at 56,960 units in February 2016 compared with 37,982 units sold in the same month a year ago.
The company attributed the sales growth its focus on expanding in tier II and III cities, along with on-going customer-centric activities and product line up, including Yamaha Fascino and FZ series.
