Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan earned the maximum amount from BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) gross revenue distributed for international games, according to a data released by BCCI on 5 June. Dhawan earned a massive sum of Rs 87.76 lakh, ahead of Virat Kohli who earned Rs 83.07 lakh.
The Delhi teammates were followed by Ajinkya Rahane earning Rs 81.06 lakh and Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma jointly at the fourth spot with Rs 73.02 lakh.
A total of 17 players received payments from BCCI’ share of gross revenue for international tournaments for FY 2015-2016 with Varun Aaron receiving the lowest amount of Rs 32.16 lakh.
BCCI also paid the players differently for cash rewards received by the ICC (International Cricket Council), retainer fees and match fees for tournament against New Zealand, England and Australia. The board releases monthly details of every payment above Rs 25 lakh.
Veteran bowler Ashish Nehra received Rs 1.52 crore as injury compensation for IPL 2016 (Indian Premier League). Diana Edulji, Anjum Chopra, Neetu David, Shubhangi Kulkarni and Sudha Shah received a one-time payment of Rs 30 lakh as rewards given to national women team cricketers.
While Dhawan may have earned the maximum, Virat Kohli is earning the most with his endorsement deals and was recently named as the sole cricketer in the Forbes list of world’s 100 highest paid athletes. The Indian captain was ranked 89th with earnings of $ 22 million, of which $ 19 million came from endorsements.
