Reliance Jio on Monday launched its Jionet wireless service at Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi, the venue for some of the T20 World Cup matches.
The Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio will offer free Wi-Fi services during the T20 World Cup across six stadiums in country under the service JioNet.
The six stadiums are Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and cricket stadiums in Dharamshala, and Mohali, according to company officials.
The Jionet network comprises over 650 access points, and is supported by 100 Gbps backhaul to ensure around 15 Mbps speed for over 40,000 spectators during the matches.
About 650 access points have been installed at Feroz Shah Kotla for supporting 4G services once the Jio is commercially launched. In other stadiums also, an average of 600 access points for Wi-Fi services has been established.
However due its large size and an over whelming capacity in Eden Garden of Kolkata is equipped with 1,100 points.
"Jionet High Density is designed to provide stable high-quality Wi-Fi coverage to individuals in a densely packed group, at which standard Wi-Fi deployment fails as the APs and their associated radio channels become congested with the increase in the number of Wi-Fi users. Under the standard deployment, simply adding more such conventional APs would not improve matters since the radio footprint of additional APs will overlap those of others, causing greater congestion," the company said in a press release.
At present Jionet WiFi service is available in some airports and tourist spots in major cities. The company did a soft launch of its 4G services in December last year for its employees.
