Ransomware Attack Hits Payment Systems Of Nearly 300 Indian Banks

A ransomware attack on C-Edge Technologies has forced a temporary shutdown of payment systems at nearly 300 small local banks across India.
The disruption affected various banks, including cooperative and regional rural banks that rely on C-Edge Technologies for their technology services. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) issued a notice informing the public that systems such as UPI and IPMS at these banks are currently unavailable due to the attack.
According to the NPCI, C-Edge Technologies has been isolated from accessing NPCI’s retail payment systems as a precautionary measure to limit the impact of the attack. The notice was released on 31 July 2024, at 6.39 pm and indicated that restoration efforts are underway and that a comprehensive security review is in progress. NPCI assured that connectivity to the affected banks will be restored as swiftly as possible.

C-Edge Technologies is a joint venture between Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and State Bank of India (SBI), is working closely with NPCI to address the situation.
