Private Sector Is In Driver’s Seat Of Country’s Economy: Rajnath Singh

Highlighting that the role of the private sector is increasing in the manufacturing and service sectors, the Defence Minister of the country Rajnath Singh has stated that the private sector is in the driver’s seat of the Indian economy today and is constantly steering the nation’s economic progress.

Speaking at the inauguration programme of a Sainik school at Rajasthan’s Jaipur, the minister noted that Sainik schools are also being made under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Mentioning that Sainik schools give fresh impetus to efforts to provide a new direction to the society, Singh noted that it stills values like discipline and courage in the younger generation.

Shedding light on the fact that all Sainik schools in the country were being run jointly by the centre and the government in states till now, Singh pointed out that the new schools which are being set up follow the PPP model.

“Whenever there is talk of public-private partnership, the word public comes first. In any project, we look at the role of the government first. But the situation is changing now. Moving away from the standard definition of PPP, I consider it to be private-public partnership,” stated the Defence Minister.

Stating the reason for using the word private first, Singh said that the role of the private sector is gaining more importance as compared to the public sector across sectors. Mentioning that agriculture and related activities employ more than half of our country’s workforce, Singh stated that manufacturing and service sectors have been witnessing increased roles from the private sector.

Highlighting that the new model of private and public partnership works best for the development of education, Singh stated that it will combine the strengths of both these sectors and ensure that the coming generation gets the best possible education.
