Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has sanctioned a significant sum of Rs. 766.42 crore for the construction and fortification of various National Highways projects in Goa.
Gadkari disclosed in a post on social media that an allocation of Rs. 455.50 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a 4-lane flyover, spanning a length of 3.35 kilometres, from MES College Junction to Bogmalo Junction on NH-566. Furthermore, within the ambit of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode under the National Highways (Original) framework, a 4-lane Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at Queeny Nagar Junction, stretching over 1.22 kilometres, is set to be erected.
Gadkari also announced an allocation of Rs. 310.92 crore for land acquisition to facilitate the construction of the Cuncolim Bypass from Uskini-bandh Cuncolim to Bendordem. This bypass, spanning 8.33 kilometres on NH-66 in South Goa district, is a crucial component of the Annual Plan 2023-24 aimed at expediting the completion of the Mumbai to Kanyakumari Economic Corridor.
Highlighting the strategic significance of the Cuncolim Bypass, Gadkari emphasised its role in alleviating congestion and curbing accidents in Cuncolim town. Additionally, the bypass is expected to enhance connectivity to prominent tourist destinations, the South Goa district headquarters, and the capital city of Panaji.
The anticipated benefits of this development include improved service levels, substantial socio-economic advantages, reduced Vehicle Operating Costs (VOC), and minimised travel time for commuters.
The approval of funds for these critical infrastructure projects underscores the government's commitment to enhancing road connectivity and fostering socio-economic development in the state of Goa.
