Apple has announced a joint venture with renewable energy developer CleanMax to invest in six rooftop solar projects aimed at powering its operations in India.
The projects, totaling 14.4 megawatts, will supply energy to Apple's offices and retail stores in Mumbai and New Delhi.
While specific financial details were not disclosed, the move shows Apple's commitment to ramping up investments in clean energy globally. With a goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by the end of the decade, Apple's expansion into solar energy in India reflects its ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint.
In addition to its renewable energy initiatives, Apple is actively addressing water sustainability challenges. The company aims to replenish 100 percent of the freshwater used in its corporate operations by 2030, with focused efforts in regions like Telangana and Maharashtra.
Last year, Apple achieved its target of 100 percent water replenishment for its corporate operations in India, providing clean drinking water to communities through initiatives like the Uptime Catalyst Facility.
Further, Apple is actively engaging with its suppliers in India and China through water stewardship training programs. By promoting responsible water stewardship within its supply chain, Apple is driving positive change in the industry and advancing sustainability efforts on a broader scale.
