Xiaomi on Thursday (2 November) launched its new range of affordable smartphones Y1 and Y1 Lite in India. The major highlight of Redmi Y1 is its 16-megapixel selfie-camera which is Xiaomi’s take on Oppo and Vivo for the selfie-centric smartphones. The company also announced that MIUI 9 will start rolling out for Xiaomi smartphones by the end of November.
Talking about the price, Redmi Y1 comes in two variants of RAM+Storage- 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB which are priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999, respectively. On the other hand, there is a single variant Y1 Lite which comes at Rs 6,999.
Both Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite will be available on Amazon and Mi.com from 8 November, 12 pm onwards. Both the Redmi handsets will also be available at offline stores across India.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1
Redmi Y1 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android Nougat 7.1.2 which will soon be upgraded to MIUI 9 by the end of November. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 Octa-core processor. Buyers can choose between two variants of RAM+Storage configuration - 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB. The storage in both devices is expandable up to 128GB through a dedicated MicroSD card slot.
Redmi Y1 features a 5.5-inch HD (1280x720) display with2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It sports a 16-megapixel selfie-camera which is the USP of this Redmi smartphones. According to Xiaomi, the front camera of this phone captures more vibrant self-potraits. The front camera features Beautify 3.0 with 36 smart beauty profile, f/2.0 aperture, and LED selfie light. On the rear is a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF technology, and LED flash.
The dual-SIM smartphone is backed by a 3080mAh battery which Xiaomi says give up to 32 hours of talktime. There’s also a fingerprint sensor at the back of the smartphone.
Connectivity options are – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G VoLTE, GPS/4-GPS, GLONASS and 3.5mm audio-jack. It measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.7mm and weighs 153 grams.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite
Redmi Y1 Lite runs on MIUI 8 based on Android Nougat 7.1.2 which will soon be upgraded to MIUI 9 by the end of November. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM. It has 16GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB through a dedicated MicroSD slot.
Redmi Y1 Lite features a 5.5-inch HD (1280x720) display. It sports a 5-megapixel selfie-camera with Beautify 3.0 with 36 smart beauty profile, f/2.0 aperture, and LED selfie light. On the rear is a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF technology, and LED flash. Ob the rear is a 13-megapixel camera which is similar to its sibling Redmi Y1.
The dual-SIM smartphone is backed by a 3080mAh battery which Xiaomi says give up to 35 hours of talktime. Connectivity options are – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G VoLTE, GPS/4-GPS, GLONASS and 3.5mm audio-jack. It measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.55mm and weighs 150 grams.
