Xiaomi just made its first big announcement for 2016 by unveiling their new budget smartphone, the Redmi 3. The Redmi series has always delivered a good set of features at a low price point and this time the Chinese smartphone giant has made it even better.
The handset is powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor which will be an update to the previous 615. There will be a 5-inch 720P HD display, no mention of any glass protection but hopefully there will be some strengthened glass on top. There will 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal memory expandable to upto 128GB via a microSD card. In the photography department the smartphone will features a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front. It will run on the company’s MIUI 7 OS on top of Android 5.1 and will feature dual-SIM card slots with 4G LTE connectivity support. There is also a 4,100 mAH battery which sounds pretty massive for a smartphone at this range. Thanks to the new chipset, the smartphone will also feature fast charging to juice up quickly.
The looks have been overhauled as now the handset has metal body and a textured back which the company calls ‘lattice design’ and includes ‘4166 stars woven together to reflect a gorgeous arrangement of diamonds’. The overall finish definitely looks premium and is expected to come in three colours, grey, silver and gold.
Priced at RMB 699 (Rs. 6990 approx.) it is a safe bet that the handset will carry a price tag of under Rs. 10,000 when it arrives in India. It will be going on sale in China from tomorrow after the official launch. No words from the company regarding the India announcement as of yet.
