The Indian automobile market is now inclining towards the compact SUV segment. However, hatchbacks still remain a favourite among the consumers. This is obvious from the fact that the top five selling cars in India are hatchbacks.

From a wide variety of such vehicles available in India, below are the top five entry level hatchbacks to choose from. 

1. Tata Nano

The GenX Nano comes equipped with 624cc MPFi petrol engine which churns out 38PS power and 51 Nm torque. The XE, XM & XT variants of GenX Nano are mated to a 4 speed manual transmission while the GenX Nano XMA & XTA variants come with a 5 speed automated manual transmission. 

The GenX Nano delivers a mileage of 23.6 kmpl with manual transmission while the AMT variants deliver 21.9 kmpl. It is available in Sangria Red, Damson Purple, Dazzle Blue, Pearl White, Meteor Silver, and Espresso Brown.

2. Datsun redi-GO

3. Maruti Suzuki Alto

Country's best-selling hatchback comes in petrol as well as in CNG engine options. While the petrol one churns out 35.3kW of maximum output, the CNG variant gives out 30.1kW of power.

4. Renault Kwid

Renault's best-selling vehicle was initially launched with 0.8L petrol engine. Later a new 1.0L petrol engine was also added to the car with automatic manual transmission.

The Renault Kwid has a boot space of 300 litres that can be extended up to 1115 litres. It comes in four variants - STD, RXE, RXL, and RXT.

5. Tata Tiago

Available in five variants, Tata Motors has provided Tiago with both petrol (Revotron) and diesel (Revotorq) engine options. The Revotron 1.2L 3 cylinder with multi-drive engine gives out 85 PS of maximum power @ 6000 RPM, while the other one churns out 70 PS of maximum output @ 4000 RPM.

The car measures 3746mm x 1647mm x 1535mm, with a wheelbase of 2400mm.
