Telangana government's Food Safety Department has raided the warehouse of Zomato's quick-commerce service Blinkit in Hyderabad and found multiple health safety measures violations by the quick home delivery firm.
Blinkit which allows customers to order groceries and essentials online through a mobile application claims to deliver orders in under 10 minutes. The online store facilitates fast deliveries through its 526 dark stores set up across several cities in India, including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
A warehouse near Hyderabad, owned by Blinkit was raided by the Hyderabad food safety department and it found that the premises were “very disorganised” and “unhygienic” with “dusty” storage racks.
According to media reports, several expired goods manufactured by Kamakshi Foods license were also found and as a result, the products of VSR including Suji, Raw peanut butter, Maida, Poha, Besan and Bajra worth Rs 30,000 were seized in the warehouse.
Further, items like whole farm ragi flour and toor dal worth Rs 52,000, suspected of being infested were seized and their samples were sent to a lab. Cosmetic products and food items were found to be stored together in the same place.
The Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana on X (formerly Twitter) stated, “The license of Whole Farm Congruence Trade and Services was not as per the FSS act regarding the address mentioned on the label. Notice will be sent.”
The commissioner added in the same post that notice will be issued and further actions will be taken accordingly.
