Samsung announced a new smartphone for the Indian market on Thursday (31 March) called the Galaxy J3 which comes with a unique feature for two wheeler riders called the S-Bike Mode. The smartphone is preloaded with this special profile mode that can be activated by tapping on a bundled NFC tag and helps reduce distraction of calls when riders are commuting.
Once the S-Bike Mode is activated on the smartphone, all the calls received are diverted to a voice message which informs the caller that the person is riding a bike and can be reached later. The message can be set to either of the 14 supported languages. In case of an emergency, the caller just needs to hit 1 to alert the rider with a special ringtone. The rider can attend the emergency call, but only when he/she stops the two wheeler to ensure safety.
The Galaxy J3 features a 5-inch HD (1280x720) Super AMOLED display offering good contrast. The core specs include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory which definitely sounds less but you get a microSD card expansion slot. In the camera department you get an 8MP rear and a 5MP front camera combo. Rest of the features include 4G LTE connectivity, Android 5.1 Lollipop adn a 2,600mAH battery. Colour options include gold, black and white.
The Galaxy J3 will be available at Rs. 8,990 exclusively from Snapdeal from today. The smartphone will come with a special double-data offer for Vodafone users for a period of 6 months for 4G users and 2 months for non-4G users.
It is interesting to see how Samsung is trying to bring in a new and distinguished feature to its handset. According to the company a large number of two-wheeler accidents occur due to the usage of smartphones while riding. The S-Bike feature is frankly not feature rich but there is definitely a big scope of improvement. Samsung also confirmed that this feature will be coming to other several Samsung devices in the future.
