LeTV held an event earlier this month and announced a smart bicycle, a VR headset and a Bluetooth stereo headset. Yesterday the company once again made some announcements and finally managed to showcase their offerings in the smartphone market. The company also announced a new identity and has now established itself as LeEco. The company officially launched the Le 1S and the Le Max both of which will be available exclusively from Flipkart through a flash sale model. A special variant of the Le Max was also announced which will feature a Sapphire crystal display called the Le Max Sapphire.
The Le 1S is a budget offering and comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD Full HD 1080p display. Inside there is a Mediatek Helio X10 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM. There is 32GB of internal storage (no SD card slot) a 13MP ISOCELL rear camera with a single LED flash and a 5MP front camera with an 85 degree wide angle lens. The handset will use the new USB Type-C port which will support fast data transfer speeds and fast charging as well. There is also a fingerprint scanner at the back and a 3000mAh batter. The device will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company’s EUI layer on top. Price at Rs. 10,999 it could bring in competition to the established players.
The Le Max on the other hand is a huge flagship smartphone with a 6.33-inch display with a 2K resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-processor which has been seen on a number of flagship smartphones along with 4GB of RAM. You get the same USB Type-C port like the Le 1S as well as fixed onboard storage of 64GB. The Sapphire version will come with 128GB of onboard storage. Res of the features include a 21MP rear camera, a 4MP UltraPixel front camera, a fingerprint sensor, Android 5.0 Lollipop with EUI layer, a 3400mAh battery, dual SIM card slots and 4G LTE support. The handset is priced at Rs. 32,999 while the Sapphire version will cost almost double, for Rs.69,999.
LeEco will provide TV and movie content to its smartphone users as the company has partnered with YuppTV and Eros Now. Owners of either of the LeEco smartphone will get a year's subscription to Eros Now. The company has taken almost a year to enter the Indian market and hasn’t brought anything out of the ordinary, although the budget offering sounds decent. The entry of the brand might not make a huge difference and LeEco will probably just fit in with the rest of the Chinese OEMs in the country.
