Nokia once ruled the global phone market for almost a decade. After the entry of Android smartphones sales of Nokia mobile phones started to fall, everyone wondered “why Nokia doesn’t launch Android smartphones?” Finally, the time has arrived where smartphones crafted by Nokia are running on Android.
HMD Global launched a whole range of Nokia-branded Android smartphones in 120 markets back in June. In the mid-range portfolio, Nokia launched three smartphones Nokia 3, 5 and 6 and these smartphones come with a sculpted polycarbonate body and aluminum frames.
On the other hand, Nokia recently entered the premium smartphone category recently with the Nokia 8. Nokia 8 has a unibody metal design made up of 6000 Aluminum series.
Nokia 8
Nokia 8 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box which will be upgraded to Android Oreo soon. It is powered by a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM. It has 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB through a hybrid dual-SIM configuration where second SIM slot doubles as a MicroSD card holder.
Nokia 8 features a 5.3-inch IPS QHD (2560x1440) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 2.5D curved glass. It sports a dual 13-megapixel rear camera where one works as a monochrome sensor and another as an RGB sensor with optical image stabilisation. On the front is a 13-megapixel selfie camera with display flash, PDAF, and f/2.0 aperture.
There is a feature called ‘Bothie’ where you can shoot from both rear and front cameras simultaneously, you can also live stream the ‘Bothie’ videos to Youtube and Facebook.
The dual-SIM handset is backed by a 3090mAh non-removable battery. The home button below the display also doubles as the fingerprint sensor. The handset is IP54 rated splashproof.
Nokia 8 measures 151.5 x 73.7 x 7.9mm. Its connectivity options are- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G VoLTE, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio-jack, and GPS/A-GPS. The handset is available in polished blue, tempered blue, steel, and polished copper.
