German luxury carmaker Volkswagen is going to commence deliveries of its premium sedan Volkswagen Passat from January 1, 2018 in India, according to reports.
Volkswagen Passat has already been launched in India on 10 October, 2017 and bookings and test drives for the vehicle started from the same day across the automaker’s showrooms in the country.
Passat is manufactured at the company’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra, and is Volkswagen’s first sedan based on the globally renowned MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform in India.
The present model is the eighth generation of Volkswagen Passat and was re-introduced in India after 2014 when it was discontinued for the Indian market.
It is going to compete with the likes of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Skoda Superb.
Price
Volkswagen Passat comes in two variants - Comfortline and Highline. While, the Comfortline has been priced at Rs 29.99 lakh, the Highline variant can be bought for Rs 32.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
It will be available in five exterior colour options - Tungsten Silver, Oryx White, Deep Black, Black Oak Brown, and Harvard Blue.
Engine
Passat is powered with the latest generation 1,968cc 2.0L TDI, turbocharged, common rail direct injection, 4 cylinders, 4 valves per cylinder diesel engine mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.
It generates a peak power of 130kW (177PS) at 3,600-4,000rpm and a torque of 350Nm ranging from 1,500–3,500rpm. It has a fuel economy of 17.42 kilometre per litre.
Dimensions
The premium sedan measures 4,767mm X 1,832mm X 1,456mm, with a wheelbase of 2,786mm. It has a boot capacity of 546 litres with all seats up and 1,152 litres with rear seat folded. Passat's fuel tank has a capacity of 66 litres.
Safety
For safety and security, Volkswagen Passat provides Driver and front passenger airbag with front passenger airbag deactivation, Knee airbag on driver side, Curtain airbag system for front and rear passengers, and Side airbags for front and rear outer passengers.
It also comes equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill start assist, Electromechanical parking brake, Lockable wheel bolts with extended anti-theft protection, Front head restraints with longitudinal and height adjustment, Three height-adjustable head restraints at rear, Electronic vehicle immobilisation device, and Seat belt reminder.
Design
The side windows on the Passat come with chrome moulding and the bumpers with decorative trim. The Full LED headlights and taillights provide better lighting performance with reduced energy consumption. It also has a panoramic sunroof.
