New Volkswagen Passat Launched In India: Prices, Specs, Features Comparison With Rivals

German premium carmaker Volkswagen has launched its all new sedan Passat in India on Tuesday (10 October) at a starting price of Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen has commenced bookings for the Passat and will be available in two trims - Comfortline (Rs 29.99 lakh) and Highline (32.99 lakh) (all prices ex-showroom).

The Volkswagen Passat is based on the new MQB platform and is powered with 2.0 L TDI diesel engine mated to a 6 speed automatic-DSG gearbox. The engine generates peak power of 130kW (177 PS) and a torque of 350 Nm ranging from 1500–3500 rpm.

The car will host several features including 9 airbags, hill start assist, auto hold, reverse camera with 3600 area view, park assist, app connect, ‘nappa’ leather seats, 3 zone auto AC, electric adjustable front seat, full led headlamps with DRLs and LED tail-lamps and easy open boot among others.

This eighth generation Volkswagen Passat is going to compete with the likes of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Skoda Superb.

Price

Volkswagen has priced Passat quite competitively. Passat is priced Rs 24,300 higher than Toyota Camry, and Rs 3,24,362 higher than Skoda Superb. Prices of Honda Accord are not available, at the moment, because of cost upgradation post GST cess rates.

Powertrain

Volkswagen Passat only comes in diesel variant, and out of its competitors Skoda Superb also sports the same engine. Both the diesel engines of the cars feature 6-speed automatic DSG transmission churning out 177PS of maximum output.

Apart from diesel, Superb comes equipped with a petrol engine in two grades - TSI and TSI (A), giving out 132PS of maximum output.

While Honda Accord's hybrid system churns out 215 PS of total maximum output, the same for Toyota Camry stood at 160PS.
