Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday said Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has crossed the 30 crore Ayushman cards on 12 January 2024.
According to the ministry, this has translated to healthcare coverage for over 12 crore poor and vulnerable families, offering a shield against financial hardship due to medical emergencies.
Notably, 6.2 crore hospital admissions worth over Rs 79,157 crore it has facilitated.
The ministry added that the card creation has increased significantly in recent years. Over 16.7 crore cards have been issued over the last two fiscal years, with over 7.5 crore created just in 2023-24.
This equates to approximately 181 cards being issued every minute.
The Ayushman App started in September 2023, has a self-verification feature that allows users to create their Ayushman cards in just four steps on their Android phones.
Additionally, anyone can help beneficiaries create their cards, fostering community participation and "Jan Bhagidari" in the scheme's success. Over 52 lakh downloads of the app since its launch are a testament to its effectiveness, it added.
Further, the ministry also stated that gender parity is an aspect of AB PM-JAY. Women account for 49 per cent of Ayushman card holders and 48 per cent of treatment recipients.
