Zomato, the renowned food aggregator, has embarked on a pioneering initiative by unveiling a crowd-supported weather infrastructure network, featuring 650 on-ground stations across the country. This groundbreaking move aims to furnish real-time updates on crucial weather parameters, including temperature and rainfall, as disclosed by the company's co-founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, on Wednesday.
The newly introduced network, branded as weatherunion.com, offers localised and real-time data on key weather metrics such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall, Goyal stated.
In a recent announcement on the micro-blogging platform X, Goyal emphasised that weatherunion.com, currently operational in 45 major cities, is slated for a rapid expansion to encompass other Indian cities in the near future.

Goyal underscored the significance of precise and timely weather information in facilitating informed business decisions to enhance customer service at Zomato. "At Zomato, it was crucial for us to have access to precise and real-time weather information to make the right business decisions to serve our customers better. Hence, we took it upon ourselves to develop a solution capable of empowering us on this front," he explained.
Moreover, Goyal revealed that numerous Zomato employees have volunteered to host weather stations at their residences. Encouraging further participation, he extended an invitation to individuals willing to offer space on their premises for installing these weather stations to contribute to the nation-building effort.
Additionally, Goyal assured that the weatherunion.com database would be freely accessible to all institutions and companies, emphasising the collective benefits of utilising real-time weather data. "Multiple companies and public institutions should use real-time weather data to boost the productivity of our economy," remarked the Zomato CEO.
Zomato's foray into weather infrastructure marks a significant stride not only in bolstering its operational efficiency but also in fostering community participation towards a shared societal objective.
The initiative is poised to revolutionise the accessibility and reliability of weather information across India, potentially serving as a catalyst for innovation and development in various sectors.
