What would you want to buy if your budget is about Rs 100 million? Maybe, a Rolls Royce or a Bentley or a Penthouse. Now meet Yuvraj, a giant 1400kg Murrah breed donor bull who is on sale for Rs 9.25 crore or Rs 92.5 million at ongoing Krishi Unnati Mela taking place in the west Delhi's Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa.
Sitting amid hundreds of gatherers, Yuvraj, a winner of Meerut's All India Cattle Show, earns about Rs 50 lakh annually for his owner, Karamvir Singh. Singh refused a mind-boggling offer of selling Yuvraj at Rs 7 crore in 2014. "Now, I want to sell him because my expenditure on 25 animals, which I own, has gone up," Singh told BW Businessworld.
Singh spends about Rs 6.5 lakh per month on his 25 animals. On Yuvraj, he spends over Rs 1.50 lakh per month.
Referring Yuvraj as 'like a son', Singh is negotiating with a South African company who has offered him a 'good enough' amount at an animal show in Karnal (in Haryana), he claimed while refusing to share the name of the company.
A single ejaculation of Yuvraj, triggered with the help of electro-stimulation method or a teaser animal, generates between upto 6 ml of semen, which is then diluted and about 600 doses are prepared with it. Singh sells a single dose for more than Rs 300.
The bull, who drinks about 20 litres of milk per day and eats 5 kg cattle feed and 10 kg of fruits, stretches to 14 feet in length and exceeds 5 feet 9 inches in height. "He also takes a 5km-walk every day. Aged 9 years, he gets mustard oil message twice in a day," Singh said in a proud voice.
The Murrah is a world famous high-yield breed found to have its origin in Haryana's Rohtak and Jind districts. It is also found in western Uttar Pradesh. "Yuvraj's mother produces around 26.4 litres of milk per day," Singh tried to validate the superiority of the breed.
