Microblogging platform X is gearing up to compete with Alphabet’s popular video app YouTube and Amazon Prime, as it plans to introduce a dedicated TV option to its service, according to a media report on Wednesday.
The company aims to expand its reach into the realm of television. X has not officially confirmed the release date of this new app. However, the Elon Musk company has assured the service will be available soon. Interestingly, the platform’s TV will offer the ability to cast videos from smartphones onto larger TV screens through the app, a feature that will mirror YouTube and Amazon Prime.
Meanwhile, apart from this video-centric strategy, the company has secured several high-profile partnerships to enhance its content offering.
It has been reported that the company is considering the possibility of entering the TV market following an analysis of the increasing demand for video content on X. Users on the platform collectively viewed approximately 23 billion minutes of video in the past month alone. This data highlights the opportunity for X to take advantage of the trend toward consuming video-based content among its user demographics.
Elon Musk had hinted at this update earlier when he responded to a user's inquiry about the arrival of long-form videos on X by saying 'coming soon'.
