Gal Gadot starrer Wonder Woman has received a thunderous response at the world-wide box-office since its release. Indian box-office followed the same trend by bringing in good numbers.
Wonder Woman, which was released on 2 June, got 329 screens in India.
The first woman superhero film took an opening of Rs 2.50 crore on Friday (16 June). Saturday (17 June) and Sunday (18 June) collectively brought in Rs 6 crore, taking the first weekend collections to Rs 8.50 crore. The DC Comics flick rested week 1 with Rs 13.5 crore.
Moving into week two with minor screen cut, Wonder Woman garnered Rs 7 crore in the second week and Rs 4.5 crore till Wednesday of Week 3 (21 June), taking its total collection to over Rs 25 crore. DC’s extended universe enjoys good fan base in India with last year’s Batman VS Superman grossing over Rs 65 crore and Suicide Squad raking in Rs 48 crore.
Getting a cluttered release with Baywatch, A Death in the Gunj and Dobaara, Wonder Woman remains the only film to have survived till the third week among the rival releases, thanks to the good critical reception and word of mouth. The film has been labelled as one of the best DC superhero movie by the International critics.
Wonder Woman also raked in excellent numbers from International box-office. In the USA, Wonder Woman collected $100.5 million over the weekend, which is the best domestic opener for a female director. The film collected another $123 million from the international territories, taking the first weekend collections to $223 million worldwide. The film stands at a total collection of $583 million at the worldwide box-office.
Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman is the prequel to DC Comics’ film Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice and the fourth instalment in the DC Extended Universe. The film has been distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
