IT player Wipro has won a five-year contract worth USD 500 million from a US-based communication service provider, as per the company’s recent filing.
The agreement comes just two months after Srinivas Pallia took over as CEO following the resignation of Thierry Delaporte early in the new fiscal year 2025. This deal involves Wipro providing managed services for specific products and industry solutions.
The company has seen notable changes in its leadership team, with Stephanie Trautman, the Chief Growth Officer and Head of Large Deals, resigning last December. Her departure followed Wipro’s challenges in securing major deals since the establishment of a growth office three years prior. This office was later restructured into strategic market units (SMUs) under Delaporte’s guidance before his departure.
Large or mega deals, typically valued at more than USD 500 million, are critical revenue generators for IT service firms. In addition to this recent win, Wipro announced a multi-billion dollar deal with Nokia over a month ago. This deal was to overhaul Nokia’s employee service desk and provide real-time IT support to its global network of employees.
For the fiscal year 2024, Wipro reported USD 4.6 billion in large deals, although individual deal sizes were not disclosed. The communications sector contributed the least to Wipro’s revenue last fiscal year, comprising around 4.2 per cent of the company’s total USD 10.8 billion revenue.
