Meta-owned WhatsApp has banned 20,69,000 accounts in October, according to its latest monthly compliance report. The Meta-owned messaging app said that it received a total of 500 grievance reports from India in the month of October.
The new IT rules, which came into effect in May, mandate large digital platforms and social media intermediaries (with over 5 million users) to publish compliance reports every month, mentioning the details of complaints received and action taken. This is the fifth compliance report released by WhatsApp.
In its fifth compliance report, WhatsApp revealed it received complaints against 500 accounts out of which 146 accounts were actioned. There were calls for 248 accounts to be banned, 11 complaints about security, and 42 for support. Apart from complaints received from users, WhatsApp itself takes action. Its own tools automatically take action against dangerous activities, violent content, etc.
“The abuse detection operates at three stages of an account’s lifestyle — at registration, during messaging, and in response to negative feedback, which we receive in the form of user reports and blocks. A team of analysts augments these systems to evaluate edge cases and help improve our effectiveness over time.”, noted WhatsApp in its compliance report.
If you also have a complaint regarding any WhatsApp account, then you can send your complaint to grievance_officer_wa@support.whatsapp.com or you can also send a complaint to the grievance officer through the post.
