Finally, it’s Official and may pose some challenge to the popular video-calling and video-conferencing services currently dominating the Work From Home office connectivity solutions. The extremely and end-to-end message encryption service, WhatsApp has rolled out the calling feature for the desktop users. After the rollout of this feature, users will now be able to make voice and video calls from both Windows and Mac. In December last year, WhatsApp released this feature in the beta version, but now it has been launched for all users. Earlier, voice and video calling facilities were limited to the mobile application.
Launching this feature, Facebook-owned Company WhatsApp said that bigger screen makes it easier to work with colleagues, see your family more clearly on a bigger canvas, or free up your hands to move around a room while talking.
The company has provided both portrait and landscape support for Video chats. However, to use this service, your WhatsApp account must be logged into the desktop. Also, the phone that has a WhatsApp account logged in, needs to be close to the laptop or desktop.
The Messaging platform said voice and video calls on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted and even WhatsApp can’t hear or see them, whether you call from your phone or your computer. Additionally, the company has also announced that it will be expanding this feature to include group voice.
Notably, Windows and Mac users will require downloading the app to use the feature. However, WhatsApp Web users will not be able to use this feature. To use the feature on Windows and Mac, users simply need to click on the video chat icon to initiate the call.
