US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday said that there are too many terror organizations in Pakistan and that the US is also concerned about the impact of those on the local government.
“We are also concerned about the security and stability of Pakistani Government. We have conveyed certain expectations we have from Pakistan in my visit to Islamabad yesterday,” said Tillerson
“We want to work with Pakistan in a positive way and we think that is in their interest in the long term.”
Speaking at a joint press statement with EAM Sushma Swaraj, he stressed on the importance of combating terror and that the two friendly nations would be in it together.
“In the fight against terrorism America will stand shoulder to shoulder with India,” Tillerson added.
“US backs India's emergence as a leading power and will continue to help Indian capabilities in providing security for the region. We are ready to provide the best technology for India's military modernization.”
Tillerson added that he was "Looking forward to discussing deals for F16 and F18 fighter jets with India and more areas of cooperation."
During the press conference, the two countries boasted of the strong ties and mutual interests. While Swaraj welcomed Tillerson to India who came to a friend’s house at the end of the trip, Tillerson called India and US natural allies. As the US views India as a key partner in peace restoration in the war-torn Afghanistan region.
Swaraj spoke about the ongoing issue of the H1b Visa and assured that nothing unfair would be done to the Indian citizens in the US.
“H1B visa issue is of prime importance to India. I have raised this issue multiple times with Secretary Tillerson. We will ensure no bill passes which is unfair to Indians in the US.”
Commenting on India’s stand on Trump’s North Korea Policy, Swaraj said that the two have discussed the issue and it is wise for the US to have one friend in North Korea as that leaves channels of communication open.
“Our trade is minimal with North Korea and the embassy is small. The embassy is an open channel for communication and US needs a friend in North Korea,” said Swaraj.
Tillerson is on a three-day visit to India and his first as the US Secretary of state. He has been on a South Asia tour and has visited Afghanistan, Pakistan, already.
